The cold that keeps on giving

Once again, it's quarantine time at my house.  All three of us are sick today, with this dreadful cold that we have been passing back and forth, seemingly, for the last two weeks.  Today, we're all feeling pretty rotten, especially the munchkin.  Is there an expiration date on disinfectant or something???  I swear, I've been disinfecting left and right, and yet, this cold is still kicking all of our butts.  Argh.

So much for a fun weekend of sewing, rather, it's been a weekend of starting some ironing and then going downhill quickly.  On the bright side, I did get to at least unpack and briefly try out my new iron.  I wound up returning the one my husband got me for Christmas because it just felt wrong.  I didn't feel like it had enough heft to press well, and it felt awkward and strange in my hand.  Plus, it didn't get anywhere near as hot as I like and it made several weird noises.  Thankfully, Bed Bath and Beyond has an awesome return policy.  My new iron is an Oliso and after I get up some more energy to use it more, I will dish all about it, I swear.  So far, I can say it sure is pretty :)

Hope you've all had a great weekend!

  4. I have an Oliso. It doesn't get as hot as my old Black & Decker, but I still like it.

  5. ugh, hope you all feel better soon. That cold seems to be everywhere. We've been passing it around since Christmas too. :(
Your new iron looks awesome though!

  6. Sorry you are sick. I have heard that tooth brushes harbor the germs and people can reinfect themselves. It's worth a shot to get new tooth brushes. Your new iron looks awesome!

  13. I hope you feel better soon & that the new iron works out. I love my oliso. It is 3 years old now & still going strong. Now I find myself leaving 'normal' irons flat on the board because I'm so used to the oliso lifting it up for me.

  14. I got an oliso iron for Christmas, too. I love the auto lift...

  15. Keep your receipt for your iron. I had an Oliso for about 18 months and by the end it wouldn't auto off, it wouldn't auto on, it spit water and finally, the last straw was it just spewing all it's water out all over my fabric. I took it back to Costco where I got it.

I love the auto lift, I loved that I could just leave it down and the cats couldn't knock it off the ironing board. But to be perfectly honest, I was truly never satisfied with it's pressing power. I have much cheaper iron now and it does a much better job.

I hope you all feel better soon. My youngest is sick right now. Hopefully nobody else gets it.

  16. Something i learned a long time ago when i had munchkins at home -- put the toothbrushes through the dishwasher. The moisture is a breeding ground for all kinds of herms. And, since the brushes are usually stored near others, the germs pass back and forth.

  18. I'll be interested to see how you like the iron. I have the same Oliso and I don't think it gets hot enough. I just got a new silicone ironing board cover. I'll let you know if things improve.

  19. Feel better soon! I can't imagine the bug that would get you down! You are like an energizer bunny! I have always been floored by how rotten one can feel with a cold, and how you feel like you will never get better. You will soon be clear of this, and the munchkins will soon stop catching everything out there too. In the meantime, I'm sending healthy thoughts your way.

  24. I think I ironed about 50 yards of fabric on Saturday night. Yeah, that's adding insult to injury. My poor, neglected blog. At least I can sew with this stuff now. Woohoo! I can't wait to hear about your new iron, though. My finicky Rowenta did it's fair share of leaking hot water on me and my fabric this weekend. Thumbs down to that. Feel better soon!!!
