I don't save my salvages, I just throw them away, I have seen a few projects done with them and they look great , but it is just not my style of project, happy sewing to all

I give them to a friend who makes clothes for herself.

I save them and make small projects - pincushions etc. I have also used them as "ribbon" for gift wrapping :) I love your block and enjoy reading your blog. Congratulations!

I cut the selvages off of my fabric with no wasted fabric that is usable. I do enjoy seeing what others do with their selvages...lot's of fun stuff out there but not for me.

It cut off every usable part of the print and then throw the rest away. But now that I see others use them as gift ties, maybe I will save a few!

I have been keeping my selvages, in hopes of making something with them some day. Don't have a lot yet, but there is always more fabric to buy!

I cut them off and drop them into whatever dog bed is open and waiting for scraps of fabric, batting, or used dryer sheets. Then I sew them up and take them to the SPCA Thrift Store, where they sell them for a couple of dollars. Someone's pet gets a new bed, SPCA gets more funds, my fabric continues to live on.

I use (some of) my selvages to stake my tomato plants in the garden! Love your block!

Over the years I have saved and used selvages on little zipper bags for cosmetics, hot pot pads, and squares for charity quilts.

I picked out your block immediately. It just screamed "Don't Call Me Betsy".

So. um. I do nothing with my selvedges, they go straight in the trash. Although I read something recently that a local quilting guild is saving all the scraps and filling dog beds with them for the local shelter. I think I may start saving!

My selvages go in a bag to be donated for dog bed fillings for a local shelter.

I have reused some of the to tie up packages and rolls of fabric for storage-I have limited space so saving them is not a priority right now.

I love star patterns and would like to make yours. I give Selfridges away at my guild for stuffing dog pillows.

I'm saving them. I may make zippered bags out of them.

As a new quilter, I am really a fan of paper piecing. Makes complex blocks so much easier. I have kept my selvedges because of various blog posts saying they regret not doing so from the beginning. I throw them away! I have saved one or two, but those are the fabrics with cute little things instead of the round dots of color.

First ones I used for key chains. Have crocheted some into rugs and bags. Also incorporated into block designs. They work great for "book" titles.

I usually cut them up into very tiny strips for the birds (they build nests with them).

I have never saved selvages but now that I've seen lots of cute projects made with them I wonder if I've thrown away lots of treasures!

I don't save them... yet. I met a lady yesterday who saves ALL scraps and slivers and brings them to another lady who uses them to stuff heart pillows for people recovering from open heart surgery to hug. Even non-sewers are now hugging on fabric! :)

I share all my selvages with a friend who makes various items. They are just too small for me to store. Plus it makes my friend really happy when I show up with a bag of them!

Congrats on being chosen for a block in the magazine. I love the block. The colors are wonderful. I do not do anything with my selvages, but I have seen lots of projects for them. I just do not have time to be able to work on those, and I think that they would drive me crazy because they can be very small, I think that is why I do not do string quilts either, but that is just me.

I don't keep them. I see the various selvage projects, and they all look so wonderful! But the majority of what I work wirh are sheets and other thrift store finds. Plus, it's just not my style.

Not into selvages. If there's is writing on them, I toss it. If it's pretty fabric on both sides, I save it for use like ribbon :-)

I have the most wonderful bag from a gal in Australia and it is all made of salvages and I just love it. But I have to say that I usually just cut through mine...and think I should save those and make another wonderful bag to give to my daughter-in-law as a gift...but it is just a thought, as I have to plan that ahead of my quilting. I use selvages a lot, I think it encourages creativity, and it takes you back to the origins of quiltmaking.

I use some on my selvages to make the "bow" on the gifted quilt.

i throw most of them out, if they are cute enough i might use them to thread through a zipper pull on pouches/bags

I have recently started saving my selvages with the thought to add them to a Bonnie Hunter "Crumb" Quilt. I want to use all my quilting notions themed and sewing themed fabrics in the quilt. :-)

I save all my selvages, too. I saw a great quilt yesterday using a Rob Peter to Pay Paul block. The pie pieces were strip pieced using colored fabric and the crusts were salvages. The effect was colorful circles on a sea of white.

There is a basket of salvages at my local quilt shop, where people swap salvages. I donate my salvages to them.

Until about a year ago when selvedge projects became the rage, I just threw them out. But now I save them.

I save them all! Just in case of course....:)

I always have good intentions of making something from selvages but they always end up in the garbage!

Sorry to say that I haven't saved the selvages. But after seeing all the wonderful things people do with them, I will start saving them to make a bag.

I'm afraid I throw mine in a basket for use as stuffing. I'm not in the habit of cutting them off as one length. What I have saved pieces of though, at times, is the eyelashy selvage part. I can see those coming in handy for crafting. Don't know what for yet, but one day they will come in handy!

Love your block! So far I've used mainly fat quarters, pieces from consignment stores or old apparel items. Since I have arthritis I only work on smaller items so most of my backings are also pieced.

I love this block so much, I can't wait to see the magazine. I do keep all my selvages, although I always trim from the non-selvage side of the fabric, so I only have a small shoe box full (but it is starting to get pretty jammed in there). I have only made one project, and it was a box pouch. I love the technique of sewing them down to a foundation. Thanks!!

I saved my selvage if it has a lot of color on it, if not I trash it. I plan to make something from them eventually :-).

So far all I do with selvages is save them:) I haven't gotten around to making anything with them yet, but plan to some day. Ribik's Star is so original and creative, plus it looks great.

I cut my selvages into random length strip and put outside for birds to use for their nests.

I haven't done anything yet because I have only been saving them for a little over a year. We moved from Illinois to Alabama last June. Our new house has a wonderful covered patio, and I want to get comfortable seating to make an outdoor living room. I think I want the cushions to be grey, and then I can decorate with pillows. I thought I would make one pillow using the selvedges. I also saw an idea for a bag made from selvedges that I liked. How wide do you cut your selvedges. I am afraid that I may not have cut mine wide enough. I guess it depends on how much you want the color of the fabric to show.

My selvages go in the trash, sorry...bet it isn't what you want to read.

The only thing I have ever done with selvages is to use them to make a bowl with clothesline. You wrap thin strips of fabric around the clothesline and stitch it together, round and round. The pattern called for 1/2 inch strips, and that is how wide the selvages are, so I figured, why not? It turned out cute!

The only thing I do with selvages is to sometimes save a bit to remember the name of the fabric.
