My first solids quilt will be from your Lucky Stars Block of the Month 2013! I kept up with the blocks really well, but I haven't done the last 3 blocks yet (Oct, Nov, Dec.) My spring break is coming up, so I'm looking forward to finishing up those blocks, and then hopefully getting the top sewn together that week!

My first all solid quilt was from Denyse Schmidt's second book, "Sawtooth Stripe". I absolutely love it. I am currently making an "almost solid" quilt, it's an improv version of DS's Shoeman's Puzzle (also from her second book). I say "almost" since I plan to pop in just a bit of print for interest. I hope that counts. :)

The closest to a solid colors quilt I ever made was an I spy, ABC quilt with 3 inch abc in the middle quilt and then turned on point with the square in a square (1 solid) and then turned again with another solid. All in primary colors.

I love working with solids just gives the quilt a very different look! Very clean looking. Right now I am working some Carol Doak blocks using solids.

When I first decided to learn to quilt, my very first piecing project was a jelly roll strip quilt, in rainbow solids. I couldn't decide how to finish it, so I put it aside. That was a 1 1/2 years ago, and I JUST finally quilted and bound it (last week). :)

I made an all solid quilt in lavender and light blue for my daughter. The pattern was from a book by Natalia Bonner. It was one of my hardest because the quilting really shows up on solid fabrics. It would be good to try again now that my FMQ skills are a little bit better. Thanks for the opportunity.

i've done a little, and i have done Skillbuilders BOM in all solids, i love it and am planning another right now.

Solids are such an important part of my quilting, but usually I work in a subtle print or two even if a project is 95% solids for a little variety. I like crossweaves and tonal patterns for that little extra fun. Thanks for the chance!

I made a king size quilt using 9" solid squares in 4 different shades of tan. Then I hand quilted it (whole cloth style). A lot of work.

Making my first all-solids quilt right now will the Happy Quilting QAL. It was difficult at first to stick to my solids-only commitment, but now I'm really liking how it's coming together.

I had to go back to my 'finishes' to figure out the answer to this one! I've made an argyle quilt all out of shot cottons if that counts as solids? I also made a windmill quilt from all blues as part of the MQG challenge to make a monochromatic quilt. I think I don't make a lot of all solids quilts because I just love prints so much they sneak into all of them!

I made a king size quilt based on Cherri House's City Tracks pattern. I inverted the colors so the neutral (shades of grey) was the background and used shades of red and added shades of blue for the accent "tracks". It turned out beautifully. I can't wait to get back to an all solids project :).

When I started quilting, about 30 years ago, I used to make baby quilts for gifts for family and friends. I used primary solids for boys and pastel solids for girls. The effect was quite lovely!

I am working on a solids quilt which will be my first one completed. It is a 3D block that if you hold it one way looks like a cube in a cube and if you flip it upside down it looks like a cube missing from a block...totally awesome!

I love, love, love rainbow quilts. I haven't yet done a solid quilt, and I think the biggest reason why is color confidence. I get to the point of picking out the fabrics and my mind starts spinning, what colors go where, what colors do I need, what would look best. I think when you have a pattern it hides some mistakes, where solids are more unforgiving.

I ended up with a gender neutral palette likely to be seen on HG TV (2 shades of brown, steel grey, ecru, chartreuse and tangerine). It's still a favorite quilt for me, but it has so many issues that are bound to come with a self taught first time quilter. But I'm a little proud of it anyway...

I fell in love with quilting thru trips to the Amish country in Holmes county Ohio. My first 3 or 4 quilts had solids in them or were totally made from solids. I love using them and have an all solid quilt in the works now.

I've only used a few solids in a baby quilt. It just needed the solid for a pop of color. I don't have very many solids, so I guess that's why I don't use them very often. Your quilt has a wonderful and unusual pattern. Looking forward to seeing it quilted.

I have made two. Interesting how we moved from one print and two solids plus background in the 70s, then to mixing prints, now for me, back to solids. I feel more in control of the value shifts when I use solids than when I have to add in consideration of values in the prints as well.

The first quilt I ever made - age 13! - was made with solids. I saw a picture in a book and decided I had to make something like it. I don't think I had a pattern, and the finished article definitely lacked some finesse(!), but my daughters recently discovered it and love it, so I'm happy!

I made a quilt for a twin sized bed for my oldest daughter who turns 44 this Monday out of yellow and green 4 1/2 inch squares. On each of one of the colored squares I embroidered by hand 114 little pictures that I copied out of coloring books. I can't even remember whether I embroidered on the yellow or the green squares. I made a baby quilt for my husbands niece. She had found a pin on pinterest of a rainbow quilt she loved. It was only an 11x17 top, and I was unable to contact the owner, So, I graphed the pattern out and made it. Fortunately, she loved it.

I made an all-solid quilt last year as part of a guild challenge. It has a bunch of colors and the front is sort of pixelated looking. I repeated a smaller version of the front on the back and then surrounded it with gray and more colored frames. It is now one of my all-time favorite quilts!

I love the simplicity of working with solids and I think it really lets a pattern shine thru.

I started one a while back...squares inside of squares. I have 32 blocks but haven't put them together yet, and I might add plaids around them, so I would take a departure from the purist approach of all solids. I'm curious to know which fabric is softer--the cotton couture or cotton supreme?

My solid quilt was with a lovely dusty-coloured jelly roll of Kona, arranged in a sort-of rainbow (the 'strip and flip' technique). I find that I really like working with solids and am planning on making at least two more solids quilts this year. They have a crispness to their edges that prints don't, and when you want that clean contrast, they're just the ticket!

i love making quilts out of all solids! I also think it's fun to do all solids but then add 1 block with a print.

Do tone-on-tone prints that "read" solid count? I find I really love the extra interest and texture the barely there print provides.

That said, who doesn't like to try something new?

I love using solids in my quilts, as well as making quilts with solids. They allow for visual impact while showing off free-motion quilting. Have not used RJR Supreme Cotton Solids, but would enjoy creating with them. These look beautiful.
