After some serious Craig's List stalking over the last few months, I finally stumbled on an inexpensive sewing cabinet for my sewing machine this weekend. I've always kept my sewing machine on top of the desk I inherited from my dad, which has great drawer space, but isn't a great space for sewing.

Basically, I made a a mini sewing cubicle. I was able to get some serious work done after I did this layout. I still need to figure out a few things, like how to organize my growing collection of quilting rulers, but I really need to get back to work on all of my WiPs at the moment. So here's hoping that I will find time for some spring cleaning and organization next month!
Don't forget to check back here tomorrow for the cutting instructions for the Sliced Coins Quilt Along! :)
Your new space looks great! I love it when I see people getting sweet sewing spaces. I'm dreaming of one but until I move I have to live vicariously through my blogging peeps. Happy sewing!
ReplyDeleteI have a small table next to the big one in the dining room...this is quite useful as I do the cutting out and any laying out while sewing on the big table next to me. I have grown up kids so a lot of the time there is just me in the house so it's fine not having a room. You are well set up for quilting.
ReplyDeleteJealous!! That looks like an ideal set up.
ReplyDeleteI think you need to put a little name plate on the front of your sewing desk (totally not practical, but fits with the cubicle :) Looks great!!
ReplyDeleteNice! I love my table that is sitting out in the middle of the room... "they" say that for quilting the table should be against a wall so that it does not fall and pull but I find it cramped and I have mine facing open space too.
ReplyDeleteOne thing I do to stop the fall off / pulling is put the ironing board on the back of the table to help support. For something big I move my cutting table over to help.
I dont know if this is an option for you but I hang all of my rulers on the wall my size and shape. I have sturdy screws with squares, rectangles and "other". I dont have enough right now to have more separations like large squares versus small squares. But it is easy to access and out of the way.
ReplyDeleteI'm always more productive in an organized space. :)
ReplyDeleteLast year we knew we had to sell our house (which we are still trying to do...) to move cross country, and a week before it was listed I asked my husband to repaint my sewing room. It was so ugly and boring, I needed something pretty (we had just moved in when we found out that we were moving across the country, so I hadn't decorated the room at all yet!). Good thing, too, since it's been almost a year and I'm still living here!
For my rulers, I used to stack them on the one side of my cutting table, but that wasn't the best technique. I like to hang them on nails (use long nails and you can hang 3 or 4 together), and I also have one of those wooden racks to stand them up in. I think I prefer the nails, but I didn't want to put the holes in the wall this time.
Love your new cube ;) Is that a coin quilt I spy on the design wall??
ReplyDeleteWow, that's nice...was that specifically a sewing table? I think it'd be dangerous to have my computer close to my sewing machine...I don't know if I'd get anything done. =)
ReplyDeleteI'm wondering...could you make some sort of hanging something to attach to the end of the desk for your rulers? Just a thought.
Oh, wow, that looks like a FABULOUS set-up! I love it!
ReplyDeleteFabulous set-up!
ReplyDeleteI have a ruler holder perched on a ledge of our bookshelf - it's a flat piece of wood with slots to hold the rulers straight up. Love it.
Mary's comment about the name plate for your cubicle cracked me up.
ReplyDeleteYour sewing arrangement looks awesome!
Don't you just love your new space. I am looking forward to tomorrows posting.....
ReplyDeleteYour rearranged sewing room looks great. I like how you now have ready access to the computer!
