30 Quilts for 30 Days Kona Blog Hop: My Eternity Ring Quilt

It's no secret that I adore working with solids, so when I found out that Kona was celebrating their 30th birthday, I wanted in on the fun! I love the crisp, graphic look at that solids bring to any project, and Kona has the largest selection of colors so I'm often sewing with Kona solids! Today is my stop on the Kona 30 blog hop, in which thirty fabulously talented designers are sharing the fantastic quilts that they've sewn up to honor Kona and their 303 amazing shades. The quilt I've created for Kona's big birthday is my Eternity Ring quilt and pattern!


For my contribution, I created a new pattern which I'm calling Eternity Ring. I wanted to play around with the idea of a paper pieced wedding ring quilt, as curves and I have yet to really play nice with one another. My Eternity Ring quilt is sewn up in gorgeous, rich Kona solids in shades of emerald and fuchsia, with one singular block sewn together in grayscale. I love the contrast the one gray block brings to the whole quilt. I pulled some of my favorite shades of Kona, like Kona Pond (quite possibly my all-time-favorite Kona solid), Kona Cerise, Kona Iron, Kona White and Kona Black and threw in some newer favorites, Kona Kale, Kona Dark Violet, Kona Charcoal, and Kona Lemon for this beauty. The blocks alternate to create a faux double wedding ring look, which is created through four paper piecing templates, which come together to create the quarter-block units for completing the blocks.


Never paper pieced before? No worries! The pattern comes with detailed instructions, accompanied by photographs to help visual learners work through the pattern. This foundation paper-pieced quilt pattern is now available through my Pattern Shop as well as through Craftsy, yay!! The pattern also includes a complete cutting list and fabric yardage instructions for four different quilt sizes: baby, lap, twin, and queen.

    I use a lot of blues. I use blue in everything I make, but I do use other colors. My last project had blue, red, white, black, yellow, and green.

    I'm just getting back in to paper pieces - I love your pattern! Oh, it is SO hard to pick a favorite Kona color. I'd have to say Kona Snow is what I use the most, but I love Kona Pepper, and Ash!

    Right now my go to is charcoal, but I'm thinking a good New Year's Resolution might be to put a new solid like mushroom or canvas into the nuetral rotation. I also love your eternity ring quilt and your craftsy profile pic!

    It's Kona white for me ~ I use it a lot.
    I've been doing lots of paper piecing these last few days. Everything comes out so nice and crisp! I love your quilt and that it's paper pieced is even better!

    The Kona Rainbow Eternity Ring Quilt looks like it would seem a mix of watercolors and stained glass when it was done in fabric. I'd love to see it completed.

    Been studying tutorials and youtubes on paper-piecing. Love your quilt design and the color possibilities "seam" endless. Love all the Kona colors, but lately, I'm "sew" in love with any of Kona's shades of Gray!!!

    I love Kona Banana. And Maize. Such mellow, pale yellows that go with everything. And Kona White, and Royal. Cypress is fun too. Kona is just my go-to solid now!

    I have used a number of the popular solids and I find that Kona is by far my favorite. The variety of colors is excellent and I can depend on a consistency that is lacking in some of the others. I've encountered flimsy and stretchy products when I have strayed from Kona. I have liked some but it just feels safe to stick with Kona.

    Looks like I signed up for your Craftsy paper piecing class just in time for your new pattern! The Kona I use the most is 'Snow' but I love so many of the colors. My favorite in the new colors is 'Pickle'.

    WoW! What a great pattern! Looks great in any color choice. I really love civil war reproduction colors and love the blues, greens. cheddar and the beiges, all yummy! Oh and I love Kona's new Watermelon color, also yummy!
